Classic Album Night: Queen: News of the World @Count’s Vampd 12-8-16

Classic Album Night is a night where a plethora of Vegas musicians get together and play a full “Classic” album as well as some other hits from the band they pick. They rehearsed for weeks to get this night of Queen just right and all these talented people totally owned it!! I stood in awe as I saw Mary Kryah tear up “White Man”on her own and then “Get Down Make Love” with Cassiopée V. Lapierre. These two ladies really blew my mind this night!! Cassiopee is one of those singers that you will stand in awe of and be amazed by everything she sings.  Every single musician that played just rocked that stage. The best was when they did “Bohemian Rhapsody” damn near to perfection and with no back tracks!! Chad Saylor, new to our scene, sang his ass off all night as well and did “Somebody to Love” beautifully. There were too many moments to review here so I took a ton of photo’s to show what I saw and some video for what I heard, and nothing can express how just amazing this night was. Being that Queen was my first concert, all these cats really did them justice!! This rock n roll scene is just insane with talent!!!

Stryper THWTD Tour @Vinyl 10-21-16

by: Leah Burlington

The mighty Stryper is on a major tour of the USA, bringing their 30th Anniversary of the “To Hell with the Devil” album along with the “Yellow & Black Attack” costumes they still fit in mind you, to their die-hard fans. This group of talented musicians, not only bring their love of Christ to the masses to this day, but they also sound amazing doing it! I couldn’t wait to see this show as I had never seen them back in 1986, so this was a real treat for me. I have become a huge fan over the years of not only their older music, but their brand new albums, “No More Hell to Pay”, and “Fallen.” This band has really grown beautifully with age, like a fine wine and they look and sound just as amazing as they did 30 years ago. They are still comprised of all original members, Michael Sweet, (vocals, guitars) Robert Sweet, (drums) Oz Fox, (guitars, back-round vocals) Tim Gaines, (bass-back-round vocals) and Michael Sweet can still belt out all his high notes with perfection.

One of the best rock/metal nights at Count’s Vampd, with three of the best local rock/metal bands on the scene, Winters Call, TailGun and Cyanide, rocking the stage and just having a blast being onstage together. Nothing but love in that venue and stage that night!! Music brings people together and brings joy to all that get to be a witness to the spectacle that is ROCK!!! Each band played their sets as other musicians from the other bands, got up and played songs together. That my friends, is what it’s ALL about!! THE MUSIC should UNITE us!! These guys all came together like a huge band of brothers! This is what it’s all about and how it always should be. Everyone supported each other in the name of all that is rock!! Metal Church & Armored Saint@ Brooklyn Bowl, Las Vegas 6-06-16

Metal Church & Armored Saint 6-06-16

By: Leah Burlington

On a hot Vegas night in June, on 6-6-16 to be exact, the metal faithful got together to attend church. A musical church,  consisting of two legendary metal bands that hailed from the early 80’s.  Metal Church and Armored  Saint. They did a seven day co- headlining tour and Vegas, thankfully, was one of their stops and they brought their musical sermon to the Brooklyn Bowl at the LINQ on the mid Las Vegas Strip. The Bowl is a bowling alley with a killer venue for live music with a huge stage and fantastic light show…

Joe Lynn Turner @ Count’s Vampd 5-26-16

Joe Lynn Turner at Count’s Vampd 5-26-16

by: Leah Burlington

I have been a fan of Joe Lynn Turner since Rainbow’s “Difficult to Cure” and “Straight Between the Eyes”, two albums that came out in the early 80’s. You couldn’t turn on MTV at the time without seeing video’s for “Cant Happen Here”, “Stone Cold” and “Death Alley Driver.” Then “Street of Dreams” from 1983’s”Bent Out of Shape.” Joe Lynn’s beautiful cat like eyes were as mesmerizing as his powerful voice. He was one of my early crushes.

Joe Lynn Turner has a huge impressive catalog of music over the years from many bands like Fandango, Rainbow,Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force, Deep Purple, Mother’s Army, Brazen Abbot, Hughes Turner Project, and in the last few years, Sunstorm. How the guy can pick a set list from all of the music he has sang in his life, is beyond me. This Jersey native also  has ten solo albums. He has been a very busy man in his rocking lifetime.

Primal Fear @Las Vegas Country Saloon 5-13-16

Primal Fear @LVCS 5/13/16

By: Leah Burlington

Primal Fear is a classic heavy metal band from Germany who could be called the German Judas Priest. They formed in 1997 when Gamma Ray vocalist, Ralf Sheepers joined bassist/vocalist Mat Sinner to bring together a band forged in metal. Their debut album “Primal Fear” was released in 1998 and soon after they were touring the world with their crunchy riffs and catchy metal songs.

Primal Fear’s present line-up is Ralf Sheepers (Vocals), Mat Sinner (Bass/vocals), Alex Bayrodt (guitars), Tom Naumann (guitars) and Francesco Jovino (drums). The mighty Magnus Karlsson is also a guitarist and songwriter for the band but he doesn’t tour unfortunately. Primal Fear has 11 studio albums out plus one compilation album “Metal is Forever-The Very Best of Primal Fear” and one live album “Live in the USA.”

The first annual “Vegas Rocks! Hair Metal Awards” (Which used to just be called Vegas Rocks! Awards Show) show was held at the East Side Cannery in Las Vegas and created by Sally Steel from Vegas Rocks! Magazine on Sunday the 15th 2016.

Awards were given out to many legendary musicians from the past 35+ years of glam/hair metal genre’s.

Awards given were:

Twisted Sister: “Lifetime Achievement” Award

Scorpions: “Classic Rock Outstanding Lifetime Achievement” Award

Doro Pesch: “Metal Goddess Legend” Award

Stephen Pearcy: “Hair Metal Hero” Award

Winger: “Hair Metal Heros” Award

Rudy Sarzo: “Bass rock Legend” Award

Brian Tichy: “Outstanding Drum Performance” Award

Marq Torien & The Bullet Boys: “Outstanding Performer” Award

Pretty Boy Floyd:”Sunset Strip Glam Kings” Award

There was a crazy packed red carpet with many famous rock celebrities walking the carpet for the paparazzi like, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Stephen Pearcy Band, Rudy and Robert Sarzo, Ron Jeremy, Queensryche, Scorpions, Chuck Billy and Alex Skolnick of Testament, Eddie Trunk, Pretty Boy Floyd, Kip Winger and Reb Beach, Murray, Nadir D’Priest and the guys from the new movie “Hair I Go Again”. Many of our own home town celebs came out like, The Sin City All Stars with Oz Fox, Drew Hart, Blas Elias and Scott Griffin. The stars of Raiding the Rock Vault were on hand, as were the house band for the night, Chaotic Resemblance. Tribute bands on hand were: Sin City KISS, Lovedrive, Fleetwood Nicks, and Arms of America.

The show was emceed by Sally Steel and “Gigolo’s” star Nick Hawk. After each artist or band performed, they would accept their award after. The only bands that didn’t perform was Angel and The Scorpions. They did a great all star tribute to Lemmy and Eddie Trunk did a 10 minute tribute to his favorite band Angel. After 35 years this legendary band all got together on one stage for the first time in 35 years to accept their awards. The best performance of the night for me, was Twisted Sister with Frankie Banali on drums. That was a match made in heavy metal heaven!!

The night ended with an all star version of “Crazy Train” with Brian Tichy on drums, Rudy Sarzo on bass, Doro, Stephen Pearcy, Kip Winger, Chuck Billy and Dee Snider on vocals. Robert Sarzo and Reb Beach on guitars.

The show was a who’s who in rock n roll and I for one, had a blast!!
