VRHMA w/ Twisted Sister, Doro, Chuck Billy, Rudy Sarzo and more… @Eastside Cannery 5-15-16

The first annual “Vegas Rocks! Hair Metal Awards” (Which used to just be called Vegas Rocks! Awards Show) show was held at the East Side Cannery in Las Vegas and created by Sally Steel from Vegas Rocks! Magazine on Sunday the 15th 2016.

Awards were given out to many legendary musicians from the past 35+ years of glam/hair metal genre’s.

Awards given were:

Twisted Sister: “Lifetime Achievement” Award

Scorpions: “Classic Rock Outstanding Lifetime Achievement” Award

Doro Pesch: “Metal Goddess Legend” Award

Stephen Pearcy: “Hair Metal Hero” Award

Winger: “Hair Metal Heros” Award

Frankie Banali of Quiet Riot: “Pioneer’s of Metal” Award

Angel: “Glam Rock Legend” Award (First time onstage together in 35 years)

Rudy Sarzo: “Bass rock Legend” Award

Brian Tichy: “Outstanding Drum Performance” Award

Marq Torien & The Bullet Boys: “Outstanding Performer” Award

Pretty Boy Floyd:”Sunset Strip Glam Kings” Award

There was a crazy packed red carpet with many famous rock celebrities walking the carpet for the paparazzi like, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Stephen Pearcy Band, Rudy and Robert Sarzo, Ron Jeremy, Queensryche, Scorpions, Chuck Billy and Alex Skolnick of Testament, Eddie Trunk, Pretty Boy Floyd, Kip Winger and Reb Beach, Murray, Nadir D’Priest and the guys from the new movie “Hair I Go Again”. Many of our own home town celebs came out like, The Sin City All Stars with Oz Fox, Drew Hart, Blas Elias and Scott Griffin. The stars of Raiding the Rock Vault were on hand, as were the house band for the night, Chaotic Resemblance. Tribute bands on hand were: Sin City KISS, Lovedrive, Fleetwood Nicks, and Arms of America.

The show was emceed by Sally Steel and “Gigolo’s” star Nick Hawk. After each artist or band performed, they would accept their award after. The only bands that didn’t perform was Angel and The Scorpions. They did a great all star tribute to Lemmy and Eddie Trunk did a 10 minute tribute to his favorite band Angel. After 35 years this legendary band all got together on one stage for the first time in 35 years to accept their awards. The best performance of the night for me, was Twisted Sister with Frankie Banali on drums. That was a match made in heavy metal heaven!!

The night ended with an all star version of “Crazy Train” with Brian Tichy on drums, Rudy Sarzo on bass, Doro, Stephen Pearcy, Kip Winger, Chuck Billy and Dee Snider on vocals. Robert Sarzo and Reb Beach on guitars.

The show was a who’s who in rock n roll and I for one, had a blast!!

Scot Coogans All Star Jam at Backstage bar & Billiards 12/18/14

GREAT night with Scot Coogan’s All Star Jam with 6 Foot Nurse, Arsenal from Rock of Ages, Stoney Curtis Band, Members of Eagles of Death Metal, Members of Ace Frehley’s band, Chickenhawk, Eric Dover of Jellyfish & DJ Lethal.

Excellent jam with SO many talented musicians who all played into the wee hours of the morning. All star jam’s and killer cover bands had everyone rocking all night long!! So much love and comraderie was celebrated amongst good friends, old and new. Rockers and hipsters, punkers and cowboys. They were all there to celebrate rock and its thriving scene in Las Vegas, especially at downtown’s very own Backstage Bar & Billiards for its two year anniversary. Music and liquor flowed with ease with zero drama and bands eager to please. Thanks goes out to Big Daddy and Ava for their hospitality and to Scot Coogan and Traci Smith for hosting and putting on an excellent show. Especially much love goes to Scot “The Coogiemonster” Coogan for playing most the night behind the kit with most the bands. Good times had by all!! Lets do this again next year!!! \mXm/

Rock n Roll Compendium: KISS 6-27-14

Rock n Roll Compendium: KISS was on for a few weeks at Planet Hollywood at the Sin City Theater and featured Sin City KISS.

I went on Friday 6/27 because I was in on a huge surprise  that was my friend was going to propose to his long time girlfriend onstage and if she said yes, (She did) Then Gene Simmons (Luis Reyes) would perform the ceremonies.  It went off without a hitch and Duane and Genie Forkner had their rock n roll dream wedding in front of friends and family during the intermission of the show.

Sin City KISS puts on quite the KISS spectacle with all the pomp and circumstance of a real KISS show. Starting in their early years all the way through until they took off the makeup. All done with Ace and Peter in the band. The costumes were spot on and the band had all the music down. Paul Stanley (Steve Mitchell) was a more then perfect Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons (Luis Reyes) is the best Gene I have ever seen. I am sure Gene would be proud. Peter Criss (Carl T Ciadella) Did a great job during “Beth” and  Ace (Keith Robert) Had Aces solo’s and poses down pat. There was some comedy in there about Ace leaving and wanting more money and then Peter after that, which was quite funny. They changed costumes from Love Gun all the way through Dynasty with some jokes in there about disco and all through it the band just rocked the stage. I had a great time and the KISS wedding was awesome. Everyone there pulled off the surprise perfectly and Genie walked away shocked and a happily married woman. If you love KISS you will love Sin City KISS!!
