Wednesday 13@ Count’s Vampd 7/10/15

I haven’t seen Wednesday 13 in a very long time. Maybe six  years ago. I saw him in a small club called ROX then and I remember really digging his goth/punk/horror style. I loved the Murderdolls and had their CD “Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls. That was with  Joey Jordison drummer for Slipknot back in 2006.  I have missed him a few more times here in Vegas so I was happy to get to see him play Count’s Vampd. This band isn’t the normal kind of band that comes here, but it was a breath of fresh air for me because I really love freaky stuff and Wednesday 13 is quite freaky to say the least.

He has a brand new album out called “Monsters of the universe: Come Out and Plague” of which I wish I would have bought before the concert because I have been playing it ever since and would have liked to have known the songs before as he played a lot of them. Wednesday 13 is always very horror themed and loves his monsters, aliens and other such Gothic stuff, and this tour he is still on point with all of that. The stage was set very dark and moody with green and red lighting throughout the show. He has a killer band, guitarist Roman Surman is really a force onstage with his screaming guitars and making faces and flipping us off. The second guitarist, Jack Tankersley and bassist Troy Doebbler, were kind of in the back round most the time looking gloomy and green in the shadow of one of the most wicked front men in shock-punk-goth-rock. The drummer Kyle Castronovo kept the crazy beat and who was also in the dark most the show, but still raging on the kit.

The show was darkly intense, many costume changes for Wednesday 13 himself, and lots of black smeared eye makeup on all the band members. One of the highlights was Wednesday 13 coming out to bright red lit stage with a totally devilish costume, even with horns and a staff as they went into a new song , “Serpent Society.” It was dark and creepy and oh so sweet. I was right in front of him most the show and it was with goosebumps that I enjoyed the “Hell” out of every single thing they played. Wednesday 13 brought many different things to the table this time around. The mask changes reminded me of another shock rocker, Lizzy Borden, without all the blood play. Also there was some black metal guitar riffing that reminded me of Dimmu or Cradle. I felt like he was doing a lot of different things and bringing some different styles of music and shock to the stage this time around which made for a very exciting show. The crowd ATE it up and I could see it in their eyes that they loved what they were seeing. A lot of perma-grins that night with the Goth crowd. I loved all the mask changes and how intense he was. Wednesday 13 is an amazing front man and he has come a long way since he started. I think this album could really put them on top of their game along with other bands out there today. Its fresh and new and full of piss an vinegar. All in all this show was one of the best of the year in my opinion at Vampd. They totally put on a spectacle and they sounded spectacular! It was a truly epic show!

I bought the CD after the show and Wednesday was kind enough to sign it and tell me it was the first signed copy. I just HAD to get it right then and pop it into my player in my car as soon as I left. It has been there ever since! He was a very kind person and talked to all the fans after and signed everything and even took photo’s with the fans. He is a soft spoken guy and you would never think he would be like that after seeing him onstage in all that creepy garb with that growling voice. I was pleasantly surprised!
